Valette is a used-EV build checker. It is designed to work without knowing who you are.
What Valette does not collect
No account. There is nothing to sign up for or log in to.
No personal data. Valette does not collect your name, email, location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and contains no ads or third-party ad SDKs.
No selling of data. Nothing is sold or shared with data brokers. There is nothing to sell.
What stays on your device
VIN checks happen on your phone. The build data ships inside the app; decoding a VIN works fully offline and the VINs you check are not sent to us.
The camera is used only to read the VIN, from the barcode or the printed characters, and text recognition runs entirely on your phone. The Pick a screenshot option works the same way. You choose one image in the iOS photo picker. The app receives a copy of that image only, with no access to the rest of your photo library, and reads the VIN from it on your phone. Images are never uploaded or saved to your photo library. Any temporary copy stays in the app's private storage on your phone, and the app is designed to delete it right after reading. Text read from an image is used only to find the VIN. It isn't saved or sent, and the VIN it finds is handled like any other VIN you check.
Paste listing reads your clipboard only when you tap it, never in the background, and your device or browser may ask you to allow the paste first. The copied text is searched for a VIN on your device. Only the VIN goes into the VIN field, or, if you copied just a short snippet, that snippet goes in as if you had typed it. The rest of the text isn't saved or sent.
Saved cars (and any labels or build dates you add) are stored only in the app on your device. Deleting the app deletes them.
Preferences are stored only in the app on your device: an app setting and the state of the rating prompt (a count of completed checks, the last VIN counted, and when and in which app version a rating was last requested). This is used only to decide when to show the App Store rating request. Deleting the app deletes them.
Anonymous usage statistics (the app)
To understand which features are useful, the iPhone app sends these anonymous usage events: a VIN check was completed, with how the VIN was entered (typed, scanned, pasted or read from a screenshot, opened from a link, or the built-in example); a check was done by choosing the model, year and other details instead of a VIN; a camera scan found a VIN or didn't; a report was shared; a car was saved. These events go to TelemetryDeck, the app's analytics provider. Each event also carries two random IDs that change every time the app opens, Valette's TelemetryDeck app ID, and the TelemetryDeck software version. As with any internet request, it also carries your IP address and the standard details iOS adds to web requests; TelemetryDeck says it may use the IP address to estimate your country and never stores it. The web checker on this site sends none of these events. These events are not linked to your identity, are not used for advertising or tracking across apps, and never include the VINs you check, your screenshots, or the text you paste. This website
This site uses Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate, privacy-friendly visitor counts (page views and referrers). It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, does not use fingerprinting, and does not track you across other websites or build a profile of you. Because no personal data or cookies are involved, no cookie-consent banner is needed. The site sets no other cookies and runs no advertising trackers.
Feedback by email
Send feedback opens your email app with a message addressed to support@valette.app. It pre-fills only a subject line, the app version and your device's operating system version, never a VIN, and nothing is sent unless you send the email yourself. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include, and use them only to reply.
